MTSU Homecoming NEARING

Fun, food, fellowship and football will be at the forefront of the 2012 Homecoming for MTSU students, alumni and friends of the university.

“Under the Blue Top” will provide a circus-like theme and atmosphere to this year’s alumni and student festivities, which will begin Saturday, Sept. 29, and culminate with the Blue Raiders’ football game with Sun Belt Conference rival Louisiana-Monroe at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, in Floyd Stadium.

“MTSU Homecoming is a time when family and friends come together to celebrate what the university means to them personally, as well as to our community,” said Rhonda King, an assistant director in alumni relations. “The Alumni Relations Office has planned a fun-filled day of events that is sure to promote Blue Raider pride and True Blue fun.”

Registration deadlines have been extended for two alumni events, King said. Golden Raiders (Class of ’62) have until noon Friday, Sept. 28, to register for their Friday and Saturday, Oct. 5-6, events. People who plan to attend the Homecoming Tailgate Lunch, which sold out in 2011, need to register by noon Monday, Oct. 1.

For both events, attendees have variety of registration opportunities: http://www.mtalumni.com/ (then click on the “Under the Blue Top” logo), call 615-898-2922 or 1-800-533-6878, or stop by the alumni office at 2259 Middle Tennessee Blvd.

Eight days of Student Government Association-related homecoming activities start Saturday, Sept. 29, at 11 a.m. with the Campus Recreation/SGA Golf Tournament at Champions Run Golf Course in Rockvale.

Student events will feature a Homecoming Kick-Off competition and games event Monday, Oct. 1, the annual Chili Cook-Off with alumni Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Stones River Mall and the annual National Panhellenic Council Step Show Friday, Oct. 5, in Murphy Center.

The Mixer on Middle Parade-Watching Party at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, kicks off homecoming day activities at the Alumni House, 2259 Middle Tennessee Blvd.

Everybody loves a parade and this year’s MTSU Homecoming Parade will start at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6. Led by alumna and grand marshal Pam Wright (’73), the parade begins on Maney Avenue, heads down East Main Street, turns onto Middle Tennessee Boulevard and ends at Greenland Drive.

Chip Walters (’85), the “voice of the Blue Raiders,” and Regina Raccuglia (’05) will be the parade announcers. Raccuglia serves as communications manager for the Tennessee Valley Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross and is a former WSMV Channel 4 news reporter.

The 2012-13 National Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumni and Young Alumni honorees will both ride in the parade and be recognized at halftime. This year’s honorees will be announced soon.
