Murfreesboro Police responded to a “shots fired” call at around 2:30 in the morning on Tuesday. The call was in the area of North Academy Street and Spring Street.

When police got to the location, they observed a green Pontiac fleeing the area. Police tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver allegedly ran several stop signs to elude officers before wrecking on North Academy Street at Castle Street.

According to the official police report, the driver identified as 32-year old Corey Lawrence, got out of the car and ran. The suspect evidently had a gun in hand when exiting the car. Officers caught the suspect and charged him with evading arrest, driving on a revoked license for a second offense, possession of a handgun while being charged with DUI and theft. Apparently, the handgun the culprit had possession of was stolen.

Lawrence, who is a Murfreesboro resident, will appear in court on December 11. He was booked under a $54,000 bond. It was not determined who fired the initial shot that resulted in police being called to the neighborhood.
