They may lay down a wallop against local competition in softball games and tug-o-war matches, but the police officers in La Vergne will face much tougher competition when they go up against alumni of the Tennessee Titans.

Members of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #85 will go toe-to-toe with former Titans players to raise money for police philanthropic projects on November 10 at 7:00 p.m. at La Vergne High School. Admission to the flag football game is $10 and concessions will be served by members of the volunteer organizationBox100.

Funds raised will go toward the annual police week inWashington,D.C.that honors fallen officers and the families left behind. In addition, money is spent on bringing food and toys to children in La Vergne who are less fortunate, and toward the youth boxing program to help at-risk teenagers.

“Too many officers lose their lives in the line of duty all across the country,” said Burrel ‘Chip’ Davis, president of FOP #85. “We are compelled as law enforcement officers to honor their sacrifice and the loss endured by their loved ones who are left with only memories.”

Thousands of law enforcement personnel attend annual police week for a candlelight vigil on May 15 every year at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. According to the official website, “Carved on these walls are the names of more than 19,000 officers who have been killed in the line of duty throughoutU.S.history, dating back to the first known death in 1791. Unlike many other memorials inWashington,DC, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial is ever-changing: new names of fallen officers are added to the monument each spring, in conjunction with National Police Week.”

This is the fourth year the FOP has played Titans Alumni, raising thousands of dollars for their projects. Former Titans who have played include: Kevin Dyson, Zach Piller, Blaine Bishop, Chris Sanders, Brad Hopkins, Dennis Stallings, Scott Sanderson and Rien Long.

Tickets will be available at the gate, but you can also get them in advance from any member of the FOP.
