Panel Recommends Changing Name of Forrest Hall

A 16-member committee recommended changing the name of Forrest Hall on the MTSU campus. This after much debate and five meetings. While there are certainly passionate feelings on both sides of the issue, one thing is for certain. It isn't over.

This recommendation goes to MTSU President Sidney McPhee, who could side with the committee or take another route altogether. Any decision by the president would go before the Tennessee Board of Regents and ultimately the Tennessee Historical Commission.

State Senator Bill Ketron was a member of the committee but found himself on the other side of the full committee's recommendation...

It would be years before the name comes down off the building, if at all. However, supporters of replacing the name of Nathan Bedford Forrest on the ROTC building have claimed the first victory in this battle, which appears far from over.
