During the New Year's holiday, law enforcement agencies have banded together with an enforcement event that's called CRASH NO MORE ON 24. Stepped-up enforcement is underway through New Year's day.

Sheriff Robert Arnold

Tennessee recorded its one-thousandth traffic fatality of the year, and this statewide campaign is designed to include extremely heavy law enforcement over the holiday and avoid additional fatalities.

Sheriff Robert Arnold noted that so far, there have been six fatalities and 231 injury crashes on I-24 here in Rutherford County.

Sheriff Arnold said . . .

Goal

The goal is to provide you and your family with safe travel. Statistics show that here in the Volunteer State, 26 per cent of the fatalities are attributed to driving while impaired. Nationally, that figure is 30 per cent, so Tennessee has a slight positive edge. Another concern is speeding. 32 per cent of the fatalities here are brought about by that.

Smyrna Chief Kevin Arnold

Smyrna Police Chief Kevin Arnold brought a sobering thought to the introduction of the Crash No More On 24 enforcement event.

It was pointed out that this will not be a half-hearted enforcement effort. Officers with the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Rutherford County Sheriffs Office, Murfreesboro, Smyrna and La Vergne Police Departments will sacrifice time-off with their family to assure that others have a safe New Year.
