Minimum custody inmate Richard Roberts has been captured, just hours after walking away from his assigned mowing detail outside the Northwest Correctional Complex in Tiptonville, TN.

Law enforcement discovered Roberts and his accomplice, Rachel N. McMillan, at a lodge in Murray, Kentucky this afternoon. Both were taken into custody and will be booked into the Calloway County Jail pending extradition to Tennessee. Roberts is charged with Felony Escape.

McMillan is charged with Facilitation of an Escape. Quick work by TDOC officers and agents and other law enforcement agencies led to the rapid capture of Roberts and McMillan. This morning, correctional officers patrolling the outer property grounds where Roberts was working noticed he had walked off, and implemented appropriate procedures immediately. TDOC agents worked closely with other state and local law enforcement agencies and swiftly determined McMillan, from Franklin, KY, had picked Roberts up in a green Chevrolet Blazer and the two were headed to the lodge in Murray, KY.

Incidents such as this are rare. TDOC is continuously implementing best practices to enhance safety and is fully prepared to respond when needed. The Tennessee Department of Correction would like to thank our law enforcement partners for their assistance in this matter.
