Proposed Bill in TN Would Limit Number of Liquor Stores in Community

A newly proposed bill in Tennessee would actually limit the number of retail liquor stores in a community. House Bill 2988 (Senate Bill 3121) would allow for cities and counties to limit the number of liquor stores to one per every 6,000 residents. If the bill passes and those numbers hold true, then the City of Murfreesboro could be home to up to 18-maximum liquor stores. Right now, Murfreesboro is home to 11-liquor stores. The proposal has been pushed to the State and Local Government Committee for review.

This is a great ideal and just for the record there are 19 liquor stores here in Murfreesboro as of now.

Let the free market determine competition. Government restrictions on competetion is not needed. What is next, # of car lots?Number of Realtors? Number of Restaurants? Number of lawyers? Number of churches?
If you think you can be a competitor, let the free market work.

Although I hope we dont ever have more than 18 liquor stores in Murfreesboro, I agree with DonWright. If there is demand for them, why limit the people who can make a living doing it? If you are morally outraged by liquor stores or the abundance thereof, then do something about the demand and dont limit free markets.
