School and road zoning was up for debate at the December meeting of the Rutherford County Commission. Earlier in the year, the commission assembled a committee and charged them with the task of making a recommendation on how to approach the current school and road zones, whether or not they should be redrawn, and if so, how. The committee presented their recommendation, a new rezoning a redistricting map, an alternative to the one which has been in place for nearly 40 years, to a very hostile reception of many commissioners who immediately wanted to strike down the proposal, even though it wasn’t actually on the agenda as being up for a vote. An immediate vote was called for on the proposal, and rejected. After about 2 hours of spirited discussion, a vote on the new proposal was deferred until the first meeting of the new year.
