The Memorial Day weekend ushers-in the start of summer, and since school is out there are more cars on the road, plus vacation travel bumps the traffic count up as well. It's also the perfect time for construction. City Traffic Engineer Ram Balachandran gives his forecast for areas to avoid in the 'Boro today through May 30th.

Joe B Jackson Pkwy Project (between Butler Dr and Stevens Bend Rd)

Road To Be Opened: Weather Permitting, Wednesday, 10:00 am: The new section of Joe B Jackson Pkwy between Butler Dr and Stevens Bend Rd is completed and will be open to traffic. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

Veterans Pkwy aka Kimbro Road Widening Project (Barfield Road to Saint Andrews Drive)

Expected Lane Closures: Tuesday through Friday: 6:30 am to 4:30 pm: Box culvert and storm drain work continues on Veterans Pkwy. There will be incidental lane closures and traffic interruptions (trucks entering and exiting the job site). Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

Bridge over Broad Street TDOT Project

Expected Lane Closures: Tuesday through Friday, 8:00 pm to 6:00 am: There will be alternating lane closures on NW Broad Street, Ridgley Road and W College Street for underground utility crossing. There will be lane shifts and traffic interruptions. Broadmor Blvd is closed to traffic at Memorial Blvd for utility crossing construction work. Broadmor Blvd can still be accessed from NW Broad Street. W Lytle Street is also closed to traffic at NW Broad Street for construction work. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

TDOT Intersection Improvements on Old Fort Pkwy at Market Place

Expected Lane Closures: Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 pm to 6:00 am: There will be lane closures on Old Fort Pkwy for median and turn lane modification work, grinding, removal and realignment of pavement markings. There will be lane shifts and traffic interruptions. One lane will remain open in each direction. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

Sewer Force Main Project (Tune Ave, Searcy St and Warrant St)

Expected Lane Closures: Tuesday through Friday: Contractor for Water &Sewer Department will be installing force sewer main lines at Tune Ave, Searcy St and Warrant Street. Warrant St will be closed to through traffic. These streets will be reduced to one lane with flagging operation. Local resident will have access at all times. Appropriate traffic controls will be in-place.

Traffic Signal Maintenance Work
1) Memorial Blvd at Thompson Lane
2) Memorial Blvd at Clark Blvd
3) NW Broad St at Northfield Blvd

Expected Lane Closures: Tuesday through Friday, 9:00 pm to 6:00 am: City traffic signal contractor will be doing signal maintenance work at the intersections listed above. There will be lane closures and traffic interruptions. All work will be done at night. Appropriate traffic controls will be in-place.

Rutherford County, TDOT resurfacing of I-24 from east of SR 840 to Stones River Bridge

Expected Lane Closures: Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 pm to 6:00 am: Contractor for Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will be milling and paving I-24 between SR 840 and Stones River Bridge. There will be alternating lane closures on I-24 in both directions, from mile marker 75 to mile marker 79, in order to mill the roadway. At least one lane will remain open in each direction. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place. Exit 78-B (I-24 EB Exit Ramp) will be closed to traffic on Friday, May 29 at 8:00 pm and will be re-opened on Monday, June 1 at 5 am. Appropriate detours and message boards will be in-place.
