Read to Succeed, the local non-profit organization with an emphasis on family literacy, received a $1,500 check from the pre-school program at Middle Tennessee Christian School. The donation will help underwrite the purchase of books. 

Volunteer Training Tuesday

The local group is sponsoring a special event this coming Tuesday. On February 5th and 26th, Read To Succeed will be hosting a volunteer tutor training from 6:00 to 8:00 each evening at the Lon Nuell Literacy Center which is located in First Baptist Church on the corner of East Main and Spring Streets. Dinner will be provided.

Background

Read to Succeed was established in the summer of 2003 when the local Jennings and Rebecca Jones Foundation got behind the concept. Now this community partnership promotes reading in Rutherford County with an emphasis on family literacy. Some of the popular activities created by Read to Succeed include Reading in the Schools Day, Reading Rally, Read To Bee, Reader Training, Imagination Station, UNPLUG and Read Day!, the county-wide One Book annual read, Families That Read Succeed and a one-on-one tutoring program for adults.
