Region Semifinal Roundup: Baseball & Softball

Elimination Monday left some winners happy and losers taking inventory after ending their season in baseball and softball. Riverdale baseball hosted Columbia for the third straight year in the region semifinals. A pitcher's duel between the Warrior's Trevor Sutton and the Lion's Hayden Stone went to extra innings. A Columbia error in the bottom of the eighth, followed by a walk put Trevin Ayers at the plate for Riverdale...

Jon Dinkins and Bryan Barrett had the call on WGNS last (Monday) night. The Warriors advance with a 2-1 win over Columbia. They'll host Tullahoma tomorrow (Wednesday) night in the region finals after the Wildcats elimiated Oakland 4-2. Also in baseball, Central Magnet moves on in Class Double-A with a 9-2 win over Sequatchie County. They'll host Upperman Wednesday at Starplex. The MTCS Cougar's season ends with a 2-nothing loss to East Robertson.

In softball, Smyrna blanked Tullahoma 6-nothing and Riverdale went to Shelbyville and carved out an 11-to-6 win. A rematch of the district championship game between Smyrna and Riverdale will take place in the region finals tomorrow night. Hear WGNS State Farm coverage of this game from Smyrna tomorrow.

All region semifinal winners from last night will also advance to the sectionals this Friday, just one game away from a Blue Cross Spring Fling appearance. WGNS will also have a sectional game on this Friday and will announce details on WGNSRadio.com after Wednesday's games.
