Residents in Smyrna are in store for a costly change. Town of Smyrna Council Members have decided to increase the property tax to cover holes in their budget. The good news, the council has decided to hold off on increasing the tax by the nearly 50% hike that was originally discussed. Council members decided on a more modest increase of less than 20%.

The property tax will increase to 19.7% after a large number of residents complained about the original proposal of 46%. This new increase will amount to about $5 additional dollars per month for the average homeowner in Smyrna or about $60 annually.
