Murfreesboro City Manager Rob Lyons is serious about having a "customer friendly government" for residents. There were four questions called-in to him during a recently WGNS' Action Line radio broadcast that he needed to research the answers.
1. Concern that the area below the Thompson Lane bridge, next to the Stones River Battleground needs to be more attractively maintained: Raymond Hillis responded, "We have cut as much of the requested area as we can comfortable do. I'm afraid if we clear cut anymore of the slope we will lose the bank and have a wash out problem. If you remember, we have had a hard time keeping the dirt material in place on this slope and I think the only thing holding it is the vegetation."
2. Concern that the land around the once historic Browns Mill, owned by the city, is not being maintained and there is trash and debris there: Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Director Lanny Goodwin quickly acted, "I have a crew on site at Brown's Mill this morning that is cleaning, mowing and trimming. They will be finishing in about an hour."
3. Will the Broad at Old Fort Parkway bridge project include efforts to improve the historic Lytle Cemetery: Dana Richardson replied, "Access will be maintained to the Lytle cemetery after project completion. Access to the cemetery is provided via an existing 20-foot access easement across the City's contiguous property."
Another WGNS' listener phoned the broadcast about their concern with overgrown lots on Shelly Street. As of this time, we do not have any response to this call.
