Dan Whittle photo exhibit at Arts Center of Cannon County
May 25-June 30, 2012 Dan Whittle's photo art is on display at the Arts Center of Cannon County (1424 John Bragg Highway in neighboring Woodbury). Admission is free to the Marly Berger Gallery. This well known journalist-photographer-author has creative nature photos and captures life in action through the lens of his camera. Middle Half Marathon
Sat. (Oct. 13, 2012) 7AM 6th Annual Middle Half Marathon and Murph's Fun Run. The 13.1-mile course starts and stops at MTSU's Dean Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium and the course is around the beautiful flat and tree-lined Murfreesboro historic district. The Murfreesboro Half Marathon course has been certified as accurate in measurement according to the standards adopted by the USATF Road Running Technical Council. Nikki Giovanni: "Life in the Bottoms"
Tue (May 29, 2012) 5:30PM Renowned social activist and poet Nikki Giovanni will speak at New Vision Baptist Church (1750 N. Thompson Lane). "Life In The Bottoms" is the final part of MTSU's 2012 local history series. The evening begins with a barbecue dinner at 5:30PM. Then at 6:30PM oral history reports from the field school will be presented. Ruth. Co. Director of Schools Awards

Four Rutherford County Schools have earned the first-ever Director of Schools Award for receiving the highest combined learning gains compared to other schools in Rutherford County.

Director of Schools Harry Gill established the award to recognize those schools with the highest TVAAS scores, which measure learning gains for students. The award recipients were announced in November during a School Board meeting and then were presented to the schools individually by Mr. Gill during faculty meetings.

In the elementary division, Cedar Grove and Brown’s Chapel tied for the award with a composite score of 11.5. LaVergne Middle won the middle school division with a composite score of 16.0, and Smyrna High took the high school division with a composite score of 29.6.

Smyrna High School also was recognized for having the highest TVAAS scores in the state of Tennessee for U.S. History and the second best scores in the state for Biology.
