The inmate population at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center is a little thinner today. In recent weeks, the Department of Corrections picked up a total of 146 state prisoners that were being housed at the local jail after a recent court date in a Rutherford County Courtroom. While that may sound like a high number, the jail on the New Salem Highway in Murfreesboro, still has 109 inmates that are scheduled to serve time in a state operated prison as opposed to the local jail. 

The jail currently receives funding from the state to house and feed inmates destined to a state operated prison.
