The Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce  announced today the creation of a new advocacy partnership between the two organizations which will allow their members to have a stronger voice in the Tennessee General Assembly.

Rutherford County Chamber members will have access to the Middle Tennessee Business Voice, an online tool administered by the Nashville Area Chamber which tracks legislative issues and facilitates communication with elected officials. Rutherford County Chamber members will also have the opportunity to participate in an annual policy survey that will inform the legislative agenda for the region’s business community. The regional legislative agenda will be represented at the state capitol by resources provided by the Nashville Area Chamber.

“Rutherford County businesses know their bottom line is affected by decisions made at the state legislature,” said Rutherford County Chamber President Paul Latture. “This partnership is an additional benefit that will help keep our members informed and will let them know when their voice needs to be heard.”

Rutherford County Chamber members will be considered advocacy members of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce. With this partnership, the Nashville Area Chamber will represent the interests of 3,700 Middle Tennessee businesses in the Tennessee General Assembly through its lobbying, research and staff resources. “If we are to preserve and grow Middle Tennessee’s prosperous business environment, we need every business in the region engaged,” said Ralph Schulz, Nashville Area Chamber president and CEO. “This partnership leverages the work of two outstanding chambers for the benefit of all of our members in Middle Tennessee.”

The advocacy partnership covers the positions shared by the two chambers on a wide range of business issues, which will be determined each January. Outside the area of legislative advocacy, both organizations retain their own memberships and benefits. In addition, both organizations continue to have complete control over their own legislative positions.
