Human remains found Sunday and Monday off Big Springs Road have been sent to the state medical examiner's office for possible identification, Sheriff Robert Arnold said.
Part of the remains were found Sunday and given to the Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Arnold said.
Sheriff's detectives, assisted by forensic pathologist Dr. Hugh Berryman and his MTSU students and the Emergency Medical Services' Special Operations Response Team, recovered additional remains Monday, he said.
"We are waiting for identification and if possible, the cause of death," Sheriff Arnold said.
The remains appear to have been in the area for several months.
