RutherfordCABLE and MTMC “Drive Home” Importance of Early Detection of Breast Cancer

RutherfordCABLE, Middle Tennessee Medical Center, Saint Thomas Health and Daymar Institute partnered to “drive home” the importance of early breast cancer detection for women via the use of a mobile mammography unit to offer free mammograms to eligible women at Daymar Institute.

Through its “Our Mission in Motion” program, Saint Thomas Health has provided Middle Tennessee with the region’s first Mobile Mammography Coach. The purpose of Our Mission in Motion is to provide mammography for underserved and underinsured populations in 16 Middle Tennessee counties in hopes of increasing early detection of breast cancer for the best possible long-term outcomes for patients.

Daymar’s Career Services Representative Holly Fitzgerald said, “I would like to thank all those who were involved with this project for bringing the Our Mission in Motion Mobile Mammography Coach to Daymar’s campus. It was a wonderful experience and so very convenient to be able to have a mammogram completed without having to miss time off from work or school. The students who participated were some who may not have had the opportunity to be examined due to extenuating circumstances. Daymar’s mission statement is ‘We Change Lives…One Person at a Time’ and I feel the coach made it possible to help us keep true to that mission statement.”
