Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital announces Chief Operating Officer and Director of Emergency Services

Murfreesboro's Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital is pleased to announce Thomas Roddy has joined the senior leadership team as Chief Operating Officer, and Susan Miller has joined the clinical leadership team as Director of Nursing in Emergency Services. Saint Thomas Health is part of Ascension, the nation's largest Catholic and nonprofit health system.

As Chief Operating Officer, Roddy will have the day-to-day management responsibilities of hospital operations, including development and implementation of high-quality, cost-effective and integrated clinical programs within the hospital. He will also be responsible for the management of operating budgets and oversight of the hospital's planning, policies and practices in collaboration with the executive leadership team.

Roddy comes to Saint Thomas Health with more than a decade of hospital operations experience. Prior to joining the Saint Thomas Health team, Roddy served as Chief Operating Officer at Flowers Hospital, and Chief Executive Officer at HealthSouth Montgomery, both in Alabama. Roddy's experience on the executive leadership teams of both hospitals includes the establish and management of growth initiatives, leading the expansion of key service lines, and development and implementation of budget reduction plans.

Roddy has been a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives since 2009. Roddy earned his Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Organizational Philosophy and a Masters of Business Administration, both from Middle Tennessee State University. Roddy also earned a Master's of Science in Health Administration and Informatics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

When Roddy is not working at Saint Thomas Health, he enjoys watching movies, sports, and spending time with family.

Miller has more than 20 years of experience in a variety of healthcare leadership roles. As Director of Nursing in Emergency Services, Miller will be responsible for providing leadership to the Emergency Department staff that will allow them to deliver high quality, excellent nursing care to Saint Thomas Health patients. Her role includes establishing a workplace culture of professional and responsible behavior that will enable a focus on patient and staff satisfaction and safety, and regulatory compliance.

Before joining the Saint Thomas Health leadership team, Miller served as Executive Director of Nursing and Director of Emergency Services at Elkhart General Hospital. Prior to those roles, she served as Director of Critical Care Services at Presence Health United Samaritans Medical Center in Illinois, and Director of Emergency Services at Indiana University Health Arnett Hospital.

Miller is certified in Emergency Nursing (CEN) and Executive Nursing Practice (CENP), and she's a member of the Emergency Nurses Association. Miller earned an associate degree in Nursing from Indiana School of Nursing, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ball State University, and a Master's degree in Management from Indiana Wesleyan University.

In her spare time, Miller enjoys gardening and spending time with family.
