A scheduled March 15-16 power outage for some campus buildings at MTSU won’t affect classes — since it’s spring break — but some offices may temporarily close or relocate.

Twenty-five MTSU buildings, predominantly operations centers on the north and east sides of campus, will have no electricity during business hours on Friday, March 15. Five of those buildings won’t have power on Saturday, March 16.

Utility crews will be finishing connections on the university’s underground electrical project during the brief outage. A similar outage involving 28 buildings and the eight houses on Greek Row was conducted Jan. 2-4 before spring 2013 classes began.

Those who plan to visit offices in the affected buildings during spring break should call or email in advance for schedule information or temporary locations, university officials said.

MTSU’s spring break is set March 11-17. No classes will be held, but university offices will be open regular hours for the week. Classes will resume on Monday, March 18.

Power for each of the affected buildings will be turned off at 8 a.m. each day and turned back on at 5 p.m. Buildings included in the March 15 power outage are:

  • the Bayer-Travis, Hastings, Haynes-Turner and Housing Maintenance complexes, along with Maintenance Building F, the Warehouse and Storage Warehouse;
  • the Holmes Building, Holmes Modular Addition, Holmes Parking Garage job trailer and the Telecommunications Building;
  • the Tennessee Livestock Center, Sheds A, B and C and the RV Parking Area;
  • the Vocational Agriculture and Horticulture Buildings and the university greenhouse;
  • the Printing Services Building;
  • Scarlett Commons;
  • Kirksey Old Main and the Midgett Building;
  • the Tom Jackson and Voorhies Engineering Technology buildings;
  • the Natatorium, the MTSU Softball Field and the COGENeration Plant.

Power also will be off from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 16 at KOM, the Midgett, Voorhies and Jackson Buildings and the Natatorium.

MTSU also plans to test their tornado sirens:

Details: MTSU plans to test its tornado sirens on campus on Wednesday, March 13, at 11:15 a.m. This is only a brief test of the system, and no safety actions will be required.

The university notifies the campus and surrounding neighborhoods before these monthly tests.
