Hippie Hill, which sits on a 40-acre tract of land in Rutherford County near the Cannon County line, is in the midst of a possible zoning change. The campgrounds, which are currently home to about 10 people, may soon be rezoned as a “Hostel” property. A Hostel is an establishment that provides inexpensive food and lodging for a specific group of people, such as travelers and the homeless (See pictures here).

Dwight Teagarden who lives on the property told WGNS…

A man who goes by the nickname of “Hippie Tom” (Tom Maddox) owns the land in question. Scott Walker talked to Tom while visiting the campsite on Tuesday…

The county meeting is scheduled for the 11th of Dec. (Wednesday). Both Hippie Tom and Dwight Teagarden will be there. The fear is the property being labeled a commercial campground, which would mean a major increase in taxes.  They host a fundraiser in Murfreesboro on Friday - Click here for that information.

Additional Audio (Interviews from Hippie Hill):

Scott Walker walked around the campsites with both Dwight Teagarden and Hippie Tom (3min and 44sec)…

Throughout the property, 1950’s and 1960’s busses can be seen (1min and 8sec)…

Hippie Tom pointed to one of the buses and told us his son traveled the country with him and his wife in. Tom’s son died at a very young age after receiving a fatal spider bite.
