With temps in the low 40s, Fall was definitely in the air as the Saturday Marketplace made its seasonal swan song for 2012 (Saturday, October 27, 2012). Participating vendors were getting e-mails from visitors and everyone was enjoying conversatiions with others.

John L. Batey (below photo, in middle) is a regular at the Saturday Marketplace. Tennessee fresh pork from his eighth generation farm in the Blackman Community has become a popular attraction at the Saturday Marketplace.  The smiling farmer, whose farm raised Wilbur, the movie star from Charlotte's Web, reminds everyone that his products are available locally at Junior's Foodland at 323 East Main Street, O'Possum's Irish Pub next to Kroger's on Memorial, and The Blue Porch Restaurant in the Arts Center of Cannon County.

In addition to the opportunity to talk with area farmers, bakers, honey producers and others, merchants around the square created special events that made it more fun to go to town on Saturday mornings. Mike and Debbie Zelenik started a Saturday brunch (7AM-2PM) at the Maple Street Grill on the west side of the square. This has become so popular that the local eatery plans to continue the brunch.

This weekly event was sponsored during the warm months by Main Street Murfreesboro and Rutherford County. A special thank you to Executive Director Kathleen Herzog for a job well done.
