Democrats and Republicans were hoping to have the framework of a deficit reduction package in place Sunday to resolve the country’s debt ceiling crisis and provide relief to nervous foreign financial markets.

It didn’t happen.  Now both sides are hoping Monday will bring better news. 

Washington often seems to work best when it’s facing a deadline.  Let's hope that trend holds true.

Conventional wisdom inside the Beltway is that a deal will be done to raise the debt ceiling before the August 2 deadline.  Negotiations continue today, with Capitol Hill sources telling ABC News that President Barack Obama and Republican House Speaker John Boehner are once again talking about more than four trillion dollars in deficit reductions.

It will be a hot start to the week as temperatures warm to near the century mark. High pressure will keep temperatures hot and combined with the humidity, heat index values will reach between 105 and 112 degrees. These weather dangerous weather conditions will persist through Tuesday evening and the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Rutherford County and much of Middle Tennessee. The first to suffer in these conditions are children, the elderly and those with chronic health conditions. Heat exhaustion, heat cramps and heat stroke are possible in prolonged exposure to the heat. If you work outside, take extra precautions. Reschedule strenous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitted clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.
