You know you want to see inside the beautiful new house at the corner of North Maney Avenue and Lytle Street, and now you have the chance!

Mark your calendar for Main Street's Evening on Maney, scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. Those attending the nonprofit Main Street organization's fundraiser will enjoy delicious refreshments and drink while strolling through the lovely new home of gracious hostesses Judy Goldie and Melanie Davenport. The evening, traditionally called Evening on Main because it's hosted by a Main Street dweller, is appropriately re-titled this year, thanks to Goldie and Davenport's downtown hospitality.

Evening on Maney benefits Main Street, which is charged with the mission of maintaining, enhancing and promoting Murfreesboro's historic downtown. "We are doing this because Main Street does so much for us and our community," said homeowner Goldie. "This was something at the top of our list, giving back to Main Street." Goldie owns two businesses on the square - Bella's Boutique and Trendy Pieces - and both she and Davenport have been active promoters of Murfreesboro's local economy. Davenport is owner of Sprint by Cellular Concepts, which operates 11 locations in Middle Tennessee.

Goldie and Davenport had been considering a downtown residential opportunity for several years when they learned that the vacant lot at North Maney and Lytle might be up for sale. "The lot had been empty for 45 years," Goldie explained. The women designed, contracted and decorated their own build of the 3,200-square-foot home in a style Goldie calls "modern farmhouse." She explained, "The style caught our eye, it was fun, and it fits in so well with the historic downtown area. It was a great way to build new and still be a part of a great community of downtown living." They used many local companies, artists and contractors in their build.

The dwelling features four porches and a detached garage with heating and air-conditioning, where drinks will be served at the Main Street event. "We love the outdoors, natural light and bringing the outdoors inside," Goldie explained. "We like to see the outside from every room." The home offers outdoor privacy, too, thanks to its L-shaped design. Privacy, that is, until Evening on Maney patrons take advantage of this opportunity to have a look, both outside and inside.

"Main Street is working hard to enhance the quality of life for our community through its work as cheerleader, recruiter, consultant, designer, event planner and economic development engine for the core of our city," said Main Street Director Kathleen Herzog. "Your friendship and financial support are necessary for Main Street as we plan for our future and preserve our rich heritage."

Reservations for Evening on Maney are suggested but not required.
