As the busiest general aviation airport in Tennessee, the Smyrna Airport is a critical facility for Rutherford County and the region. Unfortunately, the Smyrna Air Traffic Control Tower at the Smyrna Airport is on the list for potential closure as a result of federal sequestration.

The Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce supports U.S. Senator Jerry Moran’s amendment to the Senate Continuing Resolution that would stop the Federal Aviation Administration from targeting air traffic control towers in sequestration. Removing the Smyrna Airport tower from the closure list will help maintain a level of safety and efficiency at Tennessee’s busiest general aviation airport.
