Murfreesboro Police Fatal Accident Crash Team is investigating a serious crash that occurred around 8:40 Friday morning on East Northfield Boulevard near Highland Avenue.

M-P-D spokesperson Kyle Evans tells NewsRadio WGNS a green 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by 56-year old Robert Ledford of Benley Street, was traveling east in the 400 block of E. Northfield Blvd. The vehicle left the roadway and struck the mailbox at 406 E. Northfield Blvd. before striking a utility pole at 414 E. Northfield Blvd.

Ledford was transported to Vanderbilt Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Evans says it's possible that some type of emergency medical event occurred to the driver prior to the crash.

The FACT team is investigating.
