Sex Offender caught too close to a school in Murfreesboro at nearby apartment

A convicted sex offender was arrested after police responded to an address on Ewing Boulevard in Murfreesboro in regards to possible drug activity. When they arrived they did not report on any drugs being located, but instead found a sex offender who was evidently too close to a local school.

According to the restrictions set forth by the Sex Offender Registry laws in Tennessee, convicted offenders are not to be within 1,000 feet of local school grounds. George M. Allen was within under 750 feet of the Home Pittard Campus School playground and about 900 feet from the actual school building. Allen was visiting an apartment complex at 712 Ewing Boulevard.

Allen is on the Sex Offender Registry for a rape conviction. He is listed as a "Violent" offender. Under state law, sex offenders are classified as either a violent sexual offender or a sexual offender depending on what they are convicted of. Certain offenses fall under violent sexual offender and others under sexual offender. Typically, a violent sexual offender has been convicted of a more serious or aggravating offense. They are required to register for life. A sexual offender has been convicted of an offense less aggravating and can apply to be taken off the registry after 15 years.

Allen was charged with "Violation of the Sex Offender Registry Laws." He will be in court his January (2016).
