The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating a high-speed chase that came to a deadly end over the weekend, and police say as far as they can tell it was all over a speeding ticket.

Shelbyville officers say a man was speeding and nearly ran over one of them before colliding with another vehicle. The driver died, and another man was sent to the hospital.

Officers say they tried to stop 22-year-old Michael Sudberry for speeding, but police dashboard camera video shows his car taking off instead.

At one point in the video, an officer appears to try and wave Sudberry down, but Sudberry nearly runs him over. Sudberry’s vehicle is then seen plowing through several intersections with stop signs until a sudden and violent crash ends the pursuit.  His car is seen colliding into another vehicle driven by a man on his way home who never saw it coming.

Sudberry died, and the man he hit went to the hospital with multiple injuries. Shelbyville Police say it all could have been prevented if Sudberry had stopped and accepted his speeding ticket.

Sudberry was previously arrested in 2009 for filing a false report.
