Shooting suspect in Smyrna caught with guns, meth and marijuana

Smyrna Police continue to investigate a weekend shooting at Kings Crest Apartments. Sergeant Bobby Gibson tells NewsRadio WGNS they have arrested suspect John Jeff Hicks.

At approximately 1:30 am on March 14th, Smyrna Police received a 911 call regarding a shooting of a 16 year old male at Kings Crest Apartments. After following numerous leads, investigators were able to determine John Jeff Hicks ( age 22) was the suspect and an arrest warrant was issued.

After receiving a tip regarding the location of Hicks, Smyrna patrol officers were able to place him into custody without incident. At the time of his arrest, Hicks was in possession of a .22 caliber revolver, 2 - 9 mm pistols, an AR-15 rifle, marijuana for resale and meth for resale.

Hicks has been charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Felony Possession of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Altering Serial Number or Permanent Marking (handgun)
  • Possession of Schedule 1 Drug for Resale (Meth)
  • Possession of Schedule 2 Drug for Resale (Marijuana)
  • 5 Violation of Probation Warrants
  • 3 Felony Indictments (from previous narcotics sales)

Hicks is currently being detained at the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office on a $500,000 bond. The juvenile victim is expected to recover from his injuries.
