Dan Whittle photo exhibit at Arts Center of Cannon County
May 25-June 30, 2012 Dan Whittle's photo art is on display at the Arts Center of Cannon County (1424 John Bragg Highway in neighboring Woodbury). Admission is free to the Marly Berger Gallery. This well known journalist-photographer-author has creative nature photos and captures life in action through the lens of his camera. Middle Half Marathon
Sat. (Oct. 13, 2012) 7AM 6th Annual Middle Half Marathon and Murph's Fun Run. The 13.1-mile course starts and stops at MTSU's Dean Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium and the course is around the beautiful flat and tree-lined Murfreesboro historic district. The Murfreesboro Half Marathon course has been certified as accurate in measurement according to the standards adopted by the USATF Road Running Technical Council. Nikki Giovanni: "Life in the Bottoms"
Tue (May 29, 2012) 5:30PM Renowned social activist and poet Nikki Giovanni will speak at New Vision Baptist Church (1750 N. Thompson Lane). "Life In The Bottoms" is the final part of MTSU's 2012 local history series. The evening begins with a barbecue dinner at 5:30PM. Then at 6:30PM oral history reports from the field school will be presented. Smyrna Middle Principal Dies

Dr. Linda Kennedy, the principal for the Smyrna Middle School has died. Kennedy had primary peritoneal cancer. Primary peritoneal cancer is a rare cancer that starts in the membrane which lines the inside of the abdomen, clinging to and covering all the organs in the abdomen. This rare form of cancer affects between 2,000 and 10,000 women a year.

It is the second time Dr. Kennedy has had cancer. In 2009 she had uterine cancer and was able to overcome that disease. Sadly, she was not able to beat primary peritoneal cancer.
