Saturday's (2/2/2013) winter storm brings weather challenges to Rutherford County. Sheriff Robert Arnold told WGNS News that one person died and numerous crashes were reported from a winter snow storm in Rutherford County.

Saturday Morning Fatality

Shortly after 8:00 o'clock Saturday morning, the 911 dispatch at the Murfreesboro Police Department received a call about a multi-car pile-up on I-24. The crash was in the westbound lane (toward Nashville), at the South Church Street exit ramp (mile marker 81). 

Tennessee Highway Patrol spokesperson Dalya Qualls, reports to WGNS that a Fed Ex delivery van and a personal vehicle were involved. 

The Murfreesboro Police telecommunicator received the initial report and were told that everyone was OK. Even dispatch at the Tennessee Highway Patrol, told WGNS that their trooper, who is in charge of the investigation, did not initially know there had been a fatality. 

Stay At Home

Because of the poor driving conditions, Sheriff Robert Arnold asked motorists to stay home unless it’s absolutely necessary to drive.

Sergeant Mike George asked off-duty deputies to come to work to handle the increasing number of crashes.

Communications Lieutenant Candi McCluskey said the worst conditions seemed to be on Interstate 24 and Jefferson Pike.
