Chartered in 1960, the school opened in the fall of 1962. MTCS is accredited by AdvancED, the Southern Association of Independent Schools, and the National Christian School Association.

The Annual Steak Dinner is the oldest continuing fund-raising event for Middle Tennessee Christian School. The first dinner was sponsored by the original Board of Trustees to raise funds to start the school. The Board of Trustees hosts the dinner annually to support the operations of the school.
