The Revival exhibition is collaboration between students of MTSU’s English and Art departments. The students in Professor Meghan O’Connor’s silkscreen class and those in Dr. Claudia Barnett’s playwriting class will all be contributing work. An opening reception will be held on March 17, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in MTSU’s Todd Art Gallery 210 located near the center of campus in Todd Hall.

Students will be contributing work based on the theme “revival” which was inspired by the Nashville Print Revival. The silkscreen students will be showcasing their collaborative “Exquisite Corpse” project, as well as several 3D silkscreen pieces.

Revival Statement by Dr. Claudia Barnett and Art Professor Meghan O’Connor:

This project began with a group meeting where artists and writers created exquisite corpses in response to the theme of revival: Students of silkscreen (ART 2130) and playwriting (ENGL 3665) generated a series of ideas and images on paper, using crayons and ink. Inspired by their collaborative brainstorming, the artists spent the next few weeks creating 3-D silkscreen soft sculptures, and the playwrights worked in groups of three to write short scenes. This project explores how interdisciplinary work affects one’s approach to thematic studies and also how text and imagery can interplay with these interpretations. The end result will be an installation of artwork paired with an afternoon of staged readings—all in TAG-210, the student art gallery in MTSU’s Todd Hall. A reception will follow.
