The Speedway market at 1624 New Salem Highway, at the intersection of Warrior Drive, was robbed. Nearby Riverdale High School was placed on lockdown while Murfreesboro Police investigated.

Murfreesboro Police spokesman Kyle Evans tells NewsRadio WGNS that at 11:08am (Wednesday), a juvenile wearing a mask entered the gas station at the intersection of New Salem Highway and Warrior Drive. He says the suspect displayed a handgun.

Evans says the suspect took cigarettes and an undetermined amount of money and fled toward the Stones River. He was taken into custody and was being questioned by MPD detectives. He says the juvenile has been arrested and taken to the Rutherford County Juvenile Detention Center and charged with aggravated robbery. Evans says because the suspect is a juvenile, no further information will be released on the case.

Rutherford County Schools spokesman James Evans reported just after noon that Riverdale High School had been on lockdown, but that lockdown was lifted. That came after Evans says law enforcement reported to the school system the robbery suspect had been caught. He says the incident did not involve the school and Riverdale was placed on lockdown only as a precaution.
