Start Smart baseball was a new program introduced this summer by Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department. It was an introductory baseball program for boys and girls ages 2-4 years old. It prepared children, as well has their parents, for t-ball, baseball and softball in a fun non-threatening environment. Each child received a glove, bat and ball all made of soft material. Each participant also received a t-shirt.

The philosophy of Start Smart is to teach children and their parents the basics of organized baseball and softball without a fear of getting hurt and with no pressure of competition. Age appropriate equipment was used at each teaching station where the child and the parent participated.

At the end of eight week program the participants were divided into two teams and an one-inning All-Star game was played with everyone getting a chance to bat and run bases.

Start Smart Soccer is now underway.
