Political Forum on WGNS
A political forum between 14th District State Senate Republican Primary candidates Joe Carr and Shane Reeves will be on WGNS from 8:10 to 9:00 o'clock Friday morning, January 12, 2018. Listeners will be able to phone or text questions to the radio broadcast at 615-893-1450.
This will be a great way to learn how the two Republican candidates stand on the issues, plus the public will be able to ask questions that specifically focus on their concerns and interests.
With the Democratic Primary Gayle Jordan is unopposed.
The winners of the Primary Elections will be in another Political Forum on WGNS. The date of that broadcast wil be announced later.
Rutherford County Administrator of Elections Alan Farley said, "Everyone should have received their new Voter Registration Card in the mail. To vote in any election this year, you must have this new card as well as a photo ID."
Farley noted, "If you did not receive a new Voter Registration Card, contact the Rutherford County Election Commission quickly. Phone 615-898-7743.
EARLY VOTING LOCATIONS
Early voting is January 5-20, 2018, and there are only two locations at which you can take advantage of early voting:
- SportsCom (2310 Memorial Blvd, enter on DeJarnette Ln.): Open Mondays through Fridays 7AM-7PM, Saturdays 8AM-Noon
- Rutherford County Election Commission (#1 South Public Square): Open Mondays through Fridays 7AM-7AM, Saturdays 8AM-Noon
Election Day 7AM-7PM Jan. 25, 2018
Farley reminds voters that Rutherford County is the only county participating in a pilot project that allows the public to vote at the most convenient location on election day. The old precinct locations will not be used this year. Since this special election only deals with the 14th State Senate District, only voting places within that geographic area will be open from 7AM to 7PM on election day, Thursday, January 25, 2018.

Special Election
A special election for the position of Tennessee State Senate District 14 has been called for March 13, 2018. A Primary Election will take place on January 25, 2018. Early voting for this Primary is underway now (1/5/2018) through January 20, 2018.
The seat is vacant following State Senator Jim Tracy's (R) resignation. He resigned November 6, 2017, after being appointed to a federal post by President Donald Trump.
Gayle Jordan is running unopposed in the Democratic primary. Joe Carr (R) and Shane Reeves (R) are facing each other now in the Republican Primary Election.
Since the Democratic primary has no opposition, Jordan will not be a part of the upcoming radio political forum. However, the winning candidates from each party will be on a forum radio broadcast prior to the general election on March 13, 2018.
