State Senator Jim Tracy (R-Shelbyville) has received a more than perfect score of 101 percent from Americans for Prosperity (AFP), as the group named him a "Taxpayer Hero." Senator Tracy represents Bedford, Lincoln, Marshall, Moore and parts of Rutherford Counties.

Americans for Prosperity, which advocates principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility and regulatory restraint, released the ranking as part of their legislative scorecard which is meant to give citizens a clear barometer of where members of the General Assembly stand on issues affecting them.

"I am humbled to be named a hero for the taxpayers," said Senator Tracy. "During my time in the State Senate, I have worked to make sure Tennessee is a good steward of the Taxpayers' money. I believe, as a whole, the General Assembly accomplished just that and our state's stellar AAA bond rating is proof of the work that has been done over the past several years to that effect."

Tracy, who is consistently ranked as one of the most conservative legislators in Tennessee, has helped lead the charge towards making Tennessee the best managed state in the nation. In addition to the state receiving the highest credit rating available, Tennessee also has the lowest indebtedness in the country and one of the best funded pensions.

The AFP scorecard also encompasses a wide variety of other legislation. This includes legislation to repeal Common Core and replace it with Tennessee State Education standards, a measure to provide terminally ill patients with more choices about clinical drug therapies, a law to give parents of special education the option to choose which services best meet their child's needs and a bill calling for a review of licensure requirements to weed out those which are overly burdensome and stifle job creation.
