Rutherford County Sheriff's Office responded to a call of a mentally disturbed man Thursday morning at his home on Stewart Valley Road just outside of Smyrna.

He came out of his house willingly at the request of sheriff's deputies.

The man lived about one mile from Stewartsboro Elementary School. Sheriff's deputies and Smyrna Police set up a perimeter outside the house for safety.

SRO Capt. Barry Hendrixson said as a precaution, the school was locked down. Students were allowed to move within the school.

"There was no threat to the school," Capt. Hendrixson said.
