A stolen handgun from Bedford County and a half pound of weed was recovered in a traffic stop conducted in Murfreesboro. Police say they observed 31-year old David Jamal Brown turn onto Middle Tennessee Boulevard without using his turn signal. Officers say the man also failed to maintain his lane of travel.

Upon approaching the 2010 Pontiac, Officer C. Phillips wrote that he noticed an open can of beer in the driver’s side cup holder. Police searched the car and found a stolen Ruger .380 handgun. A half pound bag of marijuana was then discovered under the driver’s seat.

Brown and passenger, 23-year old Martarias McCullough, were each charged with felony possession of marijuana and theft. Brown was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. During the traffic stop, Officer Phillips stated, “Mr. McCullough advised that he did not possess any illegal items in the vehicle.”

The duo will appear in court on August 28, 2014.
