As we wrap up news from this weekend, we do have a positive story to bring your way. The U.S. Marine backpack we told you about that was stolen from a truck that was parked in the area of St. Andrews Drive last week, has been recovered. The rightful owner now has his backpack back and his grandfather’s Purple Heart and his Bronze Star are still on the front of the military green pack. Both pins were undamaged.
As far as who stole the backpack, that is unclear. We do know that the backpack was found in a parking lot. A Good Samaritan turned the pack in to M-P-D.
As true with many theft cases, the criminals often empty the contents of purses and bags and leave the bags behind. That is exactly what appears to have occurred in this situation. The Smith & Wesson .380 handgun that was in the backpack of the Reserve Marine, is still gone. It was not recovered.

Remember all the recent car break-in’s we told you about earlier this week? We now have an update on the ongoing problem.
On Wednesday morning, a local resident reported that his vehicle was broken into on Annapolis Court in Murfreesboro and one of the items stolen was his U-S Marine backpack. Annapolis Court is in the area of St. Andrews Drive. In the pack was a .380 Smith & Wesson handgun along with several personal items. The backpack was military green and had a U-S Marine patch on the front.
On the outside of the backpack were two important pins- a Bronze Star that was awarded to the owner of the pack and a Purple Heart that was awarded to his late Grandfather.
If you know of the whereabouts of the backpack, contact the Murfreesboro Police Department at 893-1311 or simply turn it in at the "M-P-D" headquarters on S. Church St. or you can drop it off at the radio station (306 S. Church St. in Murfreesboro) and we will get it back in the hands of the rightful owner.
