A Murfreesboro man will face some serious charges later this month in court that stem from an incident that allegedly occurred this past April. Police say when they approached a vehicle being operated by 23-year old Cortavis Marable, the subject fled the area after a woman jumped out of the car screaming.

The victim claimed that Marable climbed into her bedroom window and demanded that she drive him to an address on Gardner Drive. Marable allegedly told the female that he was “running from the police,” according to the incident report. The report shows that the female gave the Marable a ride and in return he reportedly assaulted her. She then pulled the car over at an apartment complex and got out of the vehicle and ran. That was when Marable allegedly scooted over to the driver’s seat and chased after her in the car, jumping a curb in the process. Marable eventually caught up with her and the victim says he pulled her back into the vehicle and fled the scene. Several minutes later they passed a police car and she was able to again, jump free from the car.

Marable remains behind bars at this time and will likely stay put until his upcoming court date on September 16th. A plea date has been set for October 30th.

MORE - Report from Sheriff's Office:

Rutherford County Sheriff’s K-9 Venture captured a suspect wanted for assaulting and kidnapping a Murfreesboro woman early Monday morning after a two-county pursuit, reported Murfreesboro Police and the Sheriff’s Office.

Suspect Cortavis Marable, 24, of 1707 Gardner St. in Murfreesboro was charged with aggravated assault and aggravated kidnapping of victim Pynthia Savely after being apprehended in Cannon County about 3 a.m., reported Murfreesboro Police Officer Julie Treadway.

Sheriff’s Cpl. David Ashburn reported Murfreesboro Police tried to apprehend Marable who traveled through the city onto Bradyville Pike outside the city limits. Deputy Jason Dowdle entered the pursuit on Bradyville Pike. Cpl. Ryan Huggins and Cpl. Ashburn joined him near the Rutherford-Cannon county line.

Marable traveled onto Highway 64 where he ran off the road and rolled down a hill into trees before fleeing, Cpl. Ashburn reported.

“I made two K-9 announcements for the suspect to surrender or K-9 force would be used,” Cpl. Ashburn reported. “I heard no response. I released K-9 Venture to conduct an off-lease area search for the felony suspect. It was a secluded area in dense brush that opened into a large field.”

Venture located Marable running about 200 yards into the field and grabbed the suspect on his upper leg.

“When I approached the suspect, he stated, ‘I’m on drugs’ and ‘I’m on cocaine,’” Cpl. Ashburn reported. “At this point, Venture had pulled the suspect’s shorts around his feet and he was unable to stand. The suspect was still trying to kick Venture away from him.”

Marable was taken into custody. Cannon County Emergency Medical Services paramedics arrived but Marable refused medical treatment. Deputy Dowdle transported Marable to Murfreesboro Police for questioning.

Treadway reported the case began when Marable allegedly broke into Savely’s home on Manor Drive and demanded she drive him to Gardner Drive , Treadway reported. When Marable refused to exit on Gardner Drive , she turned around to go home. Marable allegedly beat her until she jumped out. Marable chased her in her Buick Century.

“Marable caught her, pulled her back to the vehicle, opened the trunk and attempted to put her inside the trunk,” Treadway reported. “He then realized that she would not fit inside the trunk so he opened the rear door and forced her into the back seat of the vehicle. He then slammed the door on her foot.”

Savely kicked the door open and fled again but Marable allegedly caught her again, drug her back to the car by her hair and threw her in the car, the officer reported. She jumped for the car and ran toward Treadway’s patrol car.

Once in custody, Treadway reported she recovered a crack pipe and cocaine on Marable. She charged Marable with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault, theft of her car, possession of crack cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Officer Jacob Fountain charged Marable with felony evading arrest and driving on a suspended driver’s license. The Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper who investigated the crash charged Marable with DUI.

Marable was booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center where he remains on $63,500 bond.
