Synthetic Drugs Continue to be a Problem

Mary Schneider with the Rutherford County Drug Court is asking lawmakers to make synthetic drug possession and use a felony. Schneider told news channel 5 that too many people are finding themselves hooked on synthetic drugs and when they get caught with them, it is a mere misdemeanor offense. The state recently outlawed synthetic drugs like bath salts and plant foods, but new synthetic drugs have popped up under different names. Law enforcement is basically playing catch up while synthetic drug manufactures are sailing high. Schneider and several others will meet with lawmakers in Tennessee next week.
