Technology helped the long arm of the law snatch South Carolina man from his bed Friday morning (1/3/2014) in neighboring Williamson County. Jason Carter was wanted for larceny and fugitive from justice charges.  Robert Rickman has the report...

VERBATIM: The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) apprehended the 39-year old Columbia, South Carolina man. He reportedly escaped from the Craft Farrow State Mental Hospital there at approximately 10:00 o'clock Thursday morning (1/2/2014). Carter stole a hospital van and later purchased a Chevrolet Lumina.

South Carolina authorities pinged the suspects’ cell phone and advised that the suspect may be traveling west on Interstate 40 near exit 182 in Williamson County. Police radios throughout the area crackled with a "Be On The Lookout" request. 

Just before 7:00 o'clock Friday morning, a trooper observed the suspect's vehicle at the Fairview Inn located off of exit 182 from Interstate 40 westbound in Williamson County. Further investigation revealed that Carter checked into the hotel at approximately 4:30 that morning.

Tennessee state troopers on the scene contacted the agency’s Special Operations Unit, who arrived and took the suspect into custody without incident at approximately 9:15 Friday morning (1/3/2014).  Robert Rickman WGNS news.

Carter was transported to the Williamson County Jail where he will await extradition to South Carolina.
