Tennessee group questioning abortion proposals by lawmakers

A group in Tennessee called Healthy & Free Tennessee says they are working hard to promote sexual health and reproductive freedom in the Volunteer State. The organization most recently sent out an email suggesting that abortion rights are under attack in Tennessee.

We just received word that the House Health Sub-Committee may be hearing a slew of bills aimed at limiting access to abortion care starting next Tuesday. The bills impose intrusive, medically unnecessary requirements on providers of abortion in order to make care harder to access.

One of the bills that may be up for consideration would force anyone seeking abortion care to undergo an ultrasound even if it is not medically indicated. Another requires doctors and clinics providing abortion to go through a special set of licensing requirements.

TAKE ACTION! If any of these bills are voted out of subcommittee, we need to take a stand. We hope that you will consider joining us in Nashville to demonstrate that Tennesseans oppose any bills that are designed to impose requirements on abortion providers that push care out of reach without having any positive impact on the health of individual patients.

with subject "Attend Hearing" to indicate that you are interested in attending a hearing with Healthy and Free TN! We will send you more information once the details are confirmed.

The fact is that abortion is a safe procedure and the decision is one that should be made by each person in consultation with the trusted people in their life - not with meddling from Nashville politicians. Sign up now if you are willing to stand with us against these attacks!

We will keep you updated as we find out more about the hearings and work to oppose these bills. You can also follow us on Facebook and Twitter for updates.

Sincerely,

Allison Glass
State Director
