The Next Door's CEO Sallie Hussey spoke to the Murfreesboro Rotary Club Tuesday (7/26/2016), and gave shocking information about the rising number of addicted women.

She said, "Tennessee ranks second in the nation as having the highest number of residents with prescription drug abuse. To make things even worse, 80 per cent of those who need help, don't get it."

To put the problem in perspective, 40 Americans die each day from prescription overdoses, whereas four die from car accidents or gun shot wounds.

Hussey noted, "The Next Door meets women at their point of need and then serves them."

She explained that as a 501(c)3 corporation, most of their funding comes from donations, however they do accept insurance as well.

Hussey commented, "The difference with us is that we do not release a patient until the substance is out of their body, even if insurance companies say the person's coverage has ended."

The organization's website lists its mission statement as: The Next Door provides a continuum of evidence based services for women and their families impacted by addiction, mental illness, trauma and/or incarceration with Christ-centered compassionate care.

The Next Door began in 2002 by several women who called themselves Wild Group of Praying Women. They were members of Nashville's First Baptist Church.

It now is a state of the art residential medical facility that's located off Charlotte Avenue in Nashville, and offers help to women in crisis.

In addition to Nashville, The Next Door operates Tennessee's first correctional release center in Chattanooga.
