Just before 1:00 o'clock Thursday morning (2/20/2014) Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department’s Districts 1 and 8 responded to a fire call at Cross Court Apartments, 550 Crossway Drive.  

Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue's Public Information Officer Ashley McDonald told WGNS News that a discarded cigarette is to blame for Cross Court laundry room fire.

Upon arrival, crews discovered light smoke coming from the complex’s laundry room area, which is located in the rear corner of an occupied apartment building.

Crews entered the laundry room and located the fire in a trash can. They quickly extinguished the fire and checked for any other hotspots.

According to Captain Jamie Bigelow, the estimated damage to the laundry room was about $1,000.

No other units in the building at Cross Court Apartments were affected and no residents had to be evacuated.
