The Linebaugh Public Library System is pleased to welcome Tina Norris as the new Branch Librarian at Smyrna Public Library. Norris assumed this position beginning August 3, following the retirement of long-time LPLS employee, Carol Kersey. Norris comes to Smyrna from her most recent position as the Library Director for the Cannon County Library System in Woodbury, TN. She also has 9 years serving as a Branch Assistant Librarian in the Great River Regional Library in Delano, MN.

Norris received her English and History degree from the University of Wisconsin before moving on to receive her MLIS in 2014 from the University of South Carolina. Norris shares that this achievement has been the culmination of a lifelong love of libraries. "I believe libraries are learning organizations," Norris writes, "and as such they are truly life-changing entities. Libraries promote literacy, inspire lifelong learning, and ensure access to the information resources and tools individuals need to succeed. Libraries have the power to unite communities in a shared vision for a vibrant future."

Though she has roots in the South, Norris spent many years in California. When her husband's job moved them to Minnesota, Norris joined the Great River Regional Library System in 2005, where her passion for libraries blossomed from book lover to advocate. While working for Great River Regional Library, she developed a vibrant teen program, including a teen writers' club and game nights, taught adult literacy and computer literacy classes, and oversaw early literacy initiatives in a branch library. As time passed, she realized she wanted to play a bigger role and to be an advocate for her community, so she went back to school, focusing on library administration and management.

Bringing her education and experience to Smyrna, Norris shares that she looks forward to watching her staff and community grow, develop, and reach their fullest potential. LPLS Director Rita Shacklett joins the Linebaugh Joint Board of Directors and staff in welcoming Tina Norris to this new position.
