TN Buys 5-Nissan LEAF's

Tennessee government is buying five Nissan LEAF electric vehicles. The purchase of the cars is being made possible thanks to an April 2011 Clean Air Act settlement with the TVA. The judicial decision orders the TVA to pay the state of Tennessee $26.4 million dollars over a five year period to fund clean air programs in the state. The purchase of the LEAF vehicles is part of a clean energy initiative. The LEAF vehicles will soon be manufactured in Smyrna. Right now, Nissan is training new employees on the manufacturing process that they will be a part of. LEAF is an acronym for Leading, Environmentally friendly, Affordable, Family car.
