It was dark and around 7:30 Tuesday night (10/23/2012) a man driving the narrow and curvy Barfield Road evidently lost control of his vehicle and slammed into a utility pole. The first person on-the-scene told paramedics that the white male was unresponsive.

Reports from the Rutherford County Sheriffs Office indicated that the vehicle sustained heavy damage and that airbags had deployed.

Once paramedics checked out the 51-year old man, it was determined he had head injuries and needed to be flown by LifeFlight helicopter to the Trauma Center at Vanderbilt. The patient was going in and out of consciousness while being taken to the heli-pad at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. Shortly after 8:00PM, the man was en-flight to Nashville.

Barfield Road curves alongside the Stones River and connects the New Salem Highway with Veterans Parkway. The crash was on Barfield Road near Orchard Park Drive.
