Early Wednesday morning a 28-year old man was caught trying to shoplift two computers from the Walmart store on South Rutherford Blvd.  A store employee noticed the suspect walk past the cash registers with a shopping cart loaded with the computers. The employee approached the man and asked him if he had paid for the items.

The police report shows that the suspect started walking faster when he was approached by the worker at the store. He allegedly exited Walmart pushing the shopping cart to an awaiting truck where he was said to have thrown the computers into the truck bed.

Police reviewed the surveillance video of the incident and quickly identified the make and model of the getaway vehicle. Minutes later the truck was spotted at a gas station on Middle Tennessee Blvd. Officers questioned the occupants of the truck and learned that the computers were dropped off at a home on Sherrill Boulevard.

The two computers were Gateway touch screens valued at over $1,000.  Arrested and charged with the theft were 28-year old Tony Lynn Williams and 44-year old Scott Matthew Thompson. The two Smyrna residents will appear in court on March 4.
